Heres one for all your computer literate techno dutchies -

Is it worth me getting a new graphics card, will it make any difference?

I currently have an Nvidia FX 5200.

My system (as far as I can work out) is :- AMD athlon xp 2600+, 2.09 Ghz, 1.50 GB Ram.

Any advice is welcome ( and of course you can all take the piss, i'll just TK you more with my mg BigCry)

I think with that CPU you're limited to AGP cards right?
A Geforce 6800 or 7800 will make a huge difference compared to your FX5200.

Ok.

Now do I want an extreme, and which MB version, or the silent thingy 1 ? Are all the extra bits worth the extra money?

I wouldn't go for a silent one, and you need an AGP version.
If you have enough cash to spend I'd go for a GeForce 7800GS 256MB AGP version.

i'd ask myself if its worth spending the money on agp card now while u might actually have to do a proper upgrade on your machine in half year or so.
u neve know what game comes along that u really like but can run on this pc.

I agree with Sera. Better buy a motherboard that supports PCIe and a processor to match it as well while you are at it.

Otherwise, play with the old card a little longer untill you have the money to buy a new system (and let your wife play on this one! Smile)

most comes down to what you can afford and personal preferance,  alot of people use amd's but i like to stay well clear of them dont like them at all,  im going to rebuild with a indel dual core chip depends on cost for what speed,  i will be moving up to a pcie graphics card though with about 2 gig of ram for starters bit i will make sure its got 4 slots so i can slap some more in later.

have a look at this link shows you what other people are using for the game.

Well this is one of my main hobbies as it were (Gardening & hockey goalkeeping the others), so when it comes to money I can spend what some people might consider shocking!!

But I dont spend it on anything else so...... MrGreen

Looked at some Alienware thingy earlier...is that good or a rip off?

cant say if the price is good or bad as its pound and not euro and i personally and i think lag agrees with me there, would never touch an intel processor but the gfx card is a good one.
we have the 7800 GT and its a good one, so this one should make sure u can run all the games that are on the market atm and prolly a lot of future ones as well.
would be interesting to see the price of a similar setup with amd.
